The Feast of Our Lady of Loreto is a relatively new one, having been added to the Roman Calendar in 2019 by Pope Francis.
“This celebration will help all people, especially families, youth and religious to imitate the virtues of that perfect disciple of the Gospel, the Virgin Mother, who, in conceiving the Head of the Church also accepted us as her own,” Cardinal Robert Sarah, prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, stated in the decree published Oct. 31.
For centuries, pilgrims have visited the House of Loreto, the house in which Our Lady was born and visited by the Angel Gabriel. But did you know that the National Blue Army Shrine is home to a replica? Our Holy House is unique – a gift from the officials of the Holy House of Loreto, the Shrine’s Holy House has original stone from that sacred structure mixed in with the mortar used in the stone walls of the chapel. You can learn more about the Shrine’s Holy House under the About tab or plan a visit today.
O God, who, fulfilling the promise made to our Fathers, chose the Blessed Virgin Mary to become the Mother of the Savior,
grant that we may follow her example, for her humility was pleasing to you and her obedience profitable to us. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
